Lip Augmentation with Injectable dermal fillers

Lip augmentation with dermal fillers is my favorite treatment to perform. Each lip is different from the next and must be approached with an artistic eye. Creating a beautiful, youthful lip comes from experience, continued education and training on new techniques and products. I have developed my own signature techniques for lips of all ages, by learning from many wonderful injectors over the years.

Lip augmentation takes skill in combining anatomy, individual lip constraints, patient goals, product selection and technique.

I have experience in fillers from many companies including: Allergan ( Juvederm Ultra®, Juvederm Ultra Plus®, Juvederm Volbella® ,Juvederm Vollure® and Juvederm Voluma®), Merz ( Belotero®), Revanesse ( Versa® & Versa Lips®) and Galderma (Restylane -L,® Restylane Lyft®, Restylane Defyne®, Restylane Refyne®, Restylane silk®, Restylane Contour® and Restylane Kysse®). I have also used Scupltra® and Radiesse® though these are not injectables suitable for lip augmentation and we will discuss these in another blog for collagen and elastin production in skin rejuvenation.

My favorite products for lip augmentation come from the Galderma family of fillers and include Restylane Kysse® and Defyne® .

I find the XpressHAn technology in these products offer the most natural and beautiful results. Selecting between these products comes down to patient anatomy and constraints. A few things I consider: Age of the lip, starting size and goals, is the tissue tight or loose?

Something else to consider is if the patient wants to build a bigger lip. Again, there is a process in selecting which filler to do first, second etc. in order to get the best result without creating migration or excessive trauma to the tissue.

I never do more than a single syringe in the lips in one setting in order to preserve the shape and structure and also to avoid migration.

Something else I evaluate on exam and we discuss at your appointment, is previous filler treatments. Were the treatments done well or is there migration, asymmetries, lumps and bumps? If there are any irregularities, I prefer to dissolve and start back at baseline. There are times when we can add a little filler to even out previous work, but that will be determined on physical exam at your appointment. Previous filler type and volume injected guides us on how many dissolving sessions may be needed.

At your appointment we will discuss your medical history, goals and we can do a physical exam. Then, we will create an individualized plan to build your lips over time and strategy to maintain them.
