Hand rejuvenation options for a more youthful appearance
Many of our patients come in seeking a minimally invasive approach to address facial volume loss and improve the ratios of their lips, cheeks, chin, jaw line and nose, through contouring with fillers. I have also had an increase in patients asking about hand rejuvenation procedures. So, I want to discuss these a bit.
My most popular filler currently is made by Galderma, the product line is called Restylane®. Restylane® offers a wide range of hyaluronic acid fillers that can be used to address mid and lower face deficiencies and also offers the first FDA hyaluronic acid filler (Restylane Lyft®) to be used in the dorsal (or tops) of the hands! I also use Radiesse® (a calcium based, collagen stimulating product) for this area of rejuvenation as well- it is also FDA approved for hands. The Restylane® line provides a fantastic variety of products that when used in the right places and injected by a skilled injector, can provide natural, beautiful results.
The hyaluronic acid products, Radiesse® and Sculptra®, all vary clinically, in the amount of time they last and range from 4-18 months. Longevity of these products depend on the product used and it’s chemical makeup and the area it was used in. In general, products last longer in areas that have less movement- in the cheeks and hands for example, and breakdown quicker in the areas around the mouth and in the lips.
While many of us focus on turning back the hands of time on our faces with fillers, neurotoxins, chemical peels, microneedling and even surgery, we often don’t realize the signs of aging that our hands can give away.
Restylane Lyft® and Radiesse® are great options to treat aging hands! Some patients choose to couple the filler placement with a chemical peel to resurface and improve the texture of the hands while improving the tone and replenishing volume with fillers. The overall improvement gives a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance to the hands.
