Collagen & Elastin – the proteins vital to the antiaging process

Collagen & Elastin – the proteins vital to the antiaging process

What is collagen?

Collagen, the most abundant protein in your body, is the building block for your skin, muscles, tendons, ligaments, connective tissue, blood vessels and organs and its’ main role is to provide strength, structure and support to these tissues. For the purpose of this blog, we will focus on the skin (your body’s largest organ).

What is elastin?

Elastin is the protein required to allow for stretch and recoil of the skin (lungs and bladder).

Why do we need collagen and elastin?

As we age, we begin to lose collagen and elastin which results in visible signs of aging- including increased skin laxity and wrinkles.

How do we stimulate it?

Hyperdilute Radiesse® is an injectable which stimulates the production of both collagen and elastin. This treatment is typically done in a series of 2-3 about 4 weeks apart and can be done on the face, neck and décolleté. SkinPen® microneedling is a collagen induction therapy. Which is also done in a series, typically 3 sessions 4 weeks apart. Both are great options in office and should be done 6-12 months after series completion, to boost and maintain these proteins, which are vital in anti-aging. Ideally one would combine and complete both treatment series together for best results.

Don’t forget to protect your investment with medical grade skincare!

Some of my favorite skincare products to complement these treatments are the Alpharet, Alto Advancedand Techno Neck, these are all from the Skinbetter Science® line which you can purchase in office or using this link:

PSA: You can absolutely use these skincare products stand alone- but optimal results will include Hyperdilute Radiesse® and SkinPen® microneedling.
